Caring For Silk

General Wash Instructions:

The following tips will help you keep your silk looking (and feeling!) the way you love. While it’s natural for silk’s sheen to soften over time, rest assured that the fabric still maintains its durability, and will provide years of superior sleep!

General Wash Instructions:

  • Don't: use harsh detergents that contain bleach or brighteners.
  • Do: pick a detergent designed for delicate fabrics such as Woolite®, Ivory® Liquid Soap, or baby shampoo.
  • Do: use cool water.

Hand Washing

Follow the "General Wash" instructions.

  • Fill a sink or tub with cool water, then add a few drops of a delicate detergent.
  • Wait five minutes, then move the fabric through the water to dislodge any remaining dirt particles.
  • Drain the basin, then rinse the garment(s) in cold water.
  • Squeeze the garment gently, do not twist.

Washing Machine:

Follow the "General Wash" instructions.

Only use the washing machine if you have a “hand wash” or “delicate” cycle setting!

  • Load washer with similar delicate fabrics (heavier fabric fibers are rougher and can damage silk).
  • Wash with cool or cold water.
  • Pro tip: place your garments in a mesh wash bag. It’ll keep your item(s) from getting tangled or snagged in your machine’s agitator.

To Dry

Drying silk properly is crucial to maintain its quality and prevent damage

Here are some steps to dry silk safely:

  1. Blot Excess Moisture: After washing, gently blot excess moisture from the silk garment using a clean, dry towel. Avoid wringing or twisting the fabric, which can damage the delicate fibres.
  2. Lay Flat to Dry: Flat the silk garment on a clean, dry towel or drying rack. Smooth out any wrinkles or creases gently with your hands. Ensure that the garment is spread out evenly to allow air circulation.
  3. Avoid Direct Sunlight: Do not hang silk garments in direct sunlight to dry, as this can cause fading and damage to the fabric. Instead, choose a shaded area or an indoor location away from direct sunlight.
  4. Use a Fan: Place a fan near the drying silk to improve air circulation and speed up drying. However, avoid using high heat or a hairdryer, as excessive heat can damage silk fibres.
  5. Patience: Silk may take longer to dry than other fabrics, so be patient and allow it to air dry completely. Rushing the drying process with heat can lead to shrinkage, distortion, or damage to the fabric.
  6. Steam Ironing (Optional): Once the silk garment is almost dry, lightly steam iron it on a low setting to remove any remaining wrinkles. Use a pressing cloth or iron the garment inside to protect the fabric. Avoid using a high heat setting or pressing directly on the silk surface.

Following these steps, you can effectively dry silk garments without compromising their quality or integrity.
